Dr. Stephen Barr and his team at Western University is part of the frontline of defence against the world’s emerging pathogens. Dr. Barr will present part of his journey in trying to understand how some of the world’s most deadly viruses such as HIV, Ebola and SARS-CoV-2 emerge from their hiding places to cause disease and death in the human population. He will highlight some of the most sophisticated strategies that these viruses use to survive and how researchers are exploiting this for the design of drugs and vaccines to help treat and prevent global pandemics such as COVID-19.
