Emma Duerden is an Associate Professor in Applied Psychology in the Faculty of Education and a member of the Centre for Brain & Mind Institute at Western University, Canada. Her research is focused on child and adolescent brain development and mental health.
Her research on media and brain development examines how screen time impacts children's learning and memory abilities as well as the association with anxiety and depressive behaviours. She has made over 60 media appearances on live national radio and TV, as well as print media.
Her awards include the Early Career Investigator Award (2019, CIHR), Azrieli Future Leader in Brain Research (2021, Brain Canada), and Scientist of the Year (2023, Children's Health Foundation), and the Early Researcher Award (2024, Ontario). In recognition of her contribution to children's health research, she was recently appointed as a member of the Royal Society of Canada's College of New Scholars, Artists, and Scientists.
